New Hand Knit Wool Mary Maxim Oil Rig Derrick Sweater - Made by us!
Rewind time with this classic hand-knit wool sweater based on a “men at best work” themed collection of knitting patterns released by famed knitwear company Mary Maxim in the 1950s.
Of course, only burly and tough jobs were portrayed, like truck drivers, bulldozer operators, and our very own Oil Rig Derrick.
We've modernized the fit but kept the retro pattern totally intact. The perfect sweater for when you feel like belching clouds of toxic gas into the air like the days of yesteryear, only without all the pesky environmental impacts!
This (New!) Oil Rig Derrick Mary Maxim sweater was knit using a vintage Mary Maxim knitting pattern from 1957. The famous Oil Rig Derrick Sweater is classic kitsch and will be a conversation starter for a man or a woman.
Please note that this is a NEW sweater, NOT a vintage sweater. That makes it the ideal gift for yourself or someone else.
The Mary Maxim company made their mark on the world of knitting and fashion when they began producing a line of knitting patterns for home knitters based (loosely) on Cowichan sweaters from Vancouver Island Canada. There are actually a lot of differences between Cowichan sweaters and Mary Maxim designs but they are often confused. The overall shape of the sweaters - cardigan styles, often with raglan sleeves and shawl collars is very similar to the Cowichan designs - and some of the Mary Maxim sweaters do feature motifs that are based on the same motifs found in Cowichan sweaters. However, more often than not if you compare Mary Maxim sweaters to Cowichan sweaters you will find that they are really nothing alike. The Mary Maxim company did design beautiful sweaters though! What is fun about these timeless designs is their ULTRA kitschy-ness!
